Collectors Dolls Houses

The toys and other items in our collectors’ dolls’ house range come with very explicit instructions which make them easy to put together. As Choice Dolls’ Houses have erected and painted many of these we have a few tips we can share with you.

Before decorating, it is worth spending a little time sanding down any rough edges. MDF cuts beautifully and will require very little preparation time.

Always use a primer on the areas that you intend to paint, and then apply two coats of paint. For the outside of the house use either gloss or eggshell as these are the most hard wearing paints. Internally you can use either eggshell or emulsion. It is best to paint the interiors under good light. Otherwise, you may find afterwards that in brighter light the result is not as good as you had wished.

For windows I would recommend spray paints which can be obtained from hobby shops. Windows are a real fiddle and painting them by hand can be time-consuming. Spray painting is easy and the results are excellent. When painting doors I always purchase gloss samplers from a good decorating shop.

If you want to achieve a glass effect for your windows, purchase good quality acetate sheets from your local stationary shop. These give a very realistic look.

Dolls house furniture, dolls, toys, and other items can be purchased from the Choice Dolls’ Houses web site. You may prefer to collect dolls’ houses that replicate buildings from a certain period in history. My recommendation would be to visit the big dolls house fairs which can be found all around the UK. The good dolls’ house magazines always give dates for these events.
